Multi-phase quantification of a metallurgical slag

A complex crystalline mixture was evaluated using candidate crystal structures and full-pattern refinement to produce phase fractions, fitting diagnostics and a report-ready result package.

Project question and analysis route

Research need

Resolve overlapping contributions from several crystalline phases and estimate their relative amounts from an existing laboratory XRD pattern.

Method

Candidate phases were checked against the experimental peaks before a multi-phase Rietveld model was refined. Background, profile, cell and scale terms were reviewed together with the difference curve.

Delivered outputs

  • Observed, calculated and difference curves with phase reflection markers.
  • Crystalline phase-fraction table and refinement indicators.
  • Refined lattice parameters and consistent phase naming.
  • Technical interpretation focused on phase composition and model limitations.

The plotted case demonstrates the workflow and delivery format. Numerical values are omitted to preserve customer confidentiality.
